Even more shine for resin surfaces?

Here’s how:

  • Check the cast surface: is it fully cured? And does it show only minimal dust inclusions or irregularities? Then you’re ready to go.
  • Use the sandpapers in the following grits, one after the other, to achieve the best result: 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000.
  • Use each grit and sand thoroughly every time.
  • Wipe away sanding residue from the surface with the microfiber cloth in between steps so you can properly assess the result.
  • Finish by polishing the surface to a high gloss using the polishing sponge and polishing wax.

Remove small imperfections in the resin surface?

A fine scratch, a loose hair, a slight dent. You can also sand out small imperfections from the resin surface.

Here’s how:

  • Remove uneven areas or imperfections in the cured surface using sandpaper with a 240 grit.
  • Continue sanding with this grit until the surface is completely even again.
  • Then move through all subsequent grits, sanding thoroughly each time: 360, 500, 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000.
  • Wipe away sanding residue with the microfiber cloth in between steps to properly assess the surface.
  • Finish by polishing the surface to a high gloss using the polishing sponge and polishing wax.

Important tips for sanding and polishing resin (synthetic resin, epoxy resin)

Before sanding

  1. Resin must be fully cured before sanding. Please note the following:
  • Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the curing time of your resin.
  • Curing time may change due to additives such as pigments or alcohol.
  • Multiple layers of resin take longer to fully cure than a single layer.
  1. Put on a dust mask before you start sanding to protect yourself from sanding particles. You may also wear eye protection.

During sanding

Pay attention to these basic points for a high-gloss resin surface:

  • Do not sand in one spot; move the sander evenly across the surface.
  • Set the sander to a low speed to prevent the resin surface from overheating. If it does get hot, pause and wait until everything cools down.
  • Do not skip any grit when sanding. Fine scratches occur during sanding and can only be removed if you do not skip grits.

Pro tip

Sanding means you initially damage the resin surface. If you want to see what the final result will look like in between steps, add a little water to the surface. What you’ll see then: absolute high gloss. And that’s exactly where you’ll get to if you sand and polish carefully.

Resin Polish System PLUS video course “Glossy Finish”

For everyone who wants to do it right. For everyone who wants to know exactly what they’re doing. For everyone who wants even more brilliant shine in their resin art. So: for you!
